We are a husband and wife team that love to work together and creatively find solutions. We are passionate about the marching arts and use our experience to inform our approach to show design.

Jerry Philp
Has been a music educator in Virginia for the last 19 years teaching elementary, middle, high school and college ensembles. He designs drill for several high school and college programs across the country and works specifically the 500 strong James Madison University Marching Royal Dukes, and the WGI medalist JMU Nuance Winterguard. Jerry has helped write and stage almost 200 marching arts productions for bands, winterguards, and drumlines. His drill has been featured in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and on CollegeMarching.com. Growing out of his master thesis on student leadership development, he has also trained well over 1200 drum majors as a Lead Instructor with the JMU Summer Band Camps. As a judge he is WGI certified in general effect, and appears regularly with shows in the Atlantic Indoor Association, Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association, and the Virginia Marching Band Cooperative. As a certified welder and fabricator he combines a construction background with scenery designs for school plays and musicals as well as making custom pieces for marching arts clients.
Carly Philp
Carly is in her 19th year as Director of the James Madison University Marching Royal Dukes Colorguard. Under her instruction, her students have performed in five Macy's Parades, multiple NCAA championship games, bowl games, and on international tours to England, Ireland, Germany, and Italy. She has led the JMU Summer Band Camps colorguard camp since 2004 reaching hundreds of high school students from programs all across the Mid Atlantic region. In 2007 she founded Nuance Winterguard which has now grown to successful A and Open class units. The Nuance teams are perennial medalists in the Atlantic Indoor Association circuit and frequent finalists with Winterguard International. She serves the Executive Board of Directors of AIA as President and in 2014 was inducted into their hall of honor. She works as a Medical Fitness Coordinator with Sentara RMH Wellness and Fitness Center. Carly also is an ACSM certified group exercise instructor, personal trainer, and is on adjunct faculty with the JMU Kinesiology department.
